Dance workshop

University group

In our dance workshop you will get to know contemporary and experimental dance techniques, feel your movement possibilities and try them out creatively.

When improvising

What is the dance workshop?

The dance workshop sees itself as a laboratory for experimenting and exploring one's own movement possibilities on the basis of contemporary dance. The technique training is characterized by different approaches to bodywork and takes anatomical and individual circumstances into account. The aim is to feel connections and consciously experience principles such as centering, balance, alignment and straightening of the body, movement in space, etc. After a warm-up phase, the focus is on the search for sources and movement material for dance improvisation. We play with movement qualities, tempo, levels, the alternation of solo, duo, trio, let ourselves be inspired by images or objects and discover, with or without music, the diverse possibilities of dance, our creativity and, last but not least, the joy of movement.

About the course instructor

Margarete Wäckerle

is a physiotherapist, dancer, dance teacher, yoga teacher and mother of 3 adult children. The joy of movement and movement research run through her whole life. Even as a child and teenager, Ms. Wäckerle was an enthusiastic gymnast. Through her training and many years of work as a physiotherapist, she learned a lot about the connections between movement and was able to expand her knowledge of movement through further training in dance.

In 1989, Ms. Wäckerle discovered New Dance and Contact Improvisation (CI) and was fascinated by these dance forms from the very beginning. She completed her dance training in 2003 at the Dance Vision Institute San Francisco/Stuttgart (Keriac and others) and in 2009 at Bewegungsart/TIP Freiburg (Lilo Stahl/Bernd Ka and others), supplemented by further training with many internationally renowned teachers in the field of CI.

In 2007, Ms. Wäckerle took over the dance workshop and also began teaching CI in workshops. In recent years she has also learned to dance Tango Argentino and has been teaching Contactango (fusion of Tango Argentino and CI) at workshops and festivals ever since. Ms. Wäckerle is co-organizer of the CI Festival and the Contactango Festival in Stuttgart. As a dancer, she has been involved in various dance and dance theater productions by choreographers from Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg.

In her classes, Ms. Wäckerle invites participants to explore and expand their own movement qualities.

Feedback from participants

Pauline

"I really enjoyed the improv dance course. It gave me a space to move, to feel free, to express myself and to share this with others. After the classes, I usually felt more confident, liberated and clearer - replacing every meditation and every other yoga session! I really enjoyed the feedback sessions, chatting and ending the day together. The most beautiful thing was Margarethe's welcoming, considerate and sensitive way of working. My only criticism: the course should take place more often!"

Christine

"Margarethe leads the dance workshop with great dance experience and a warm, soothing warmth. My body feels softer and more supple afterwards and I really enjoy experimenting with movement and dance in a playful way and experiencing the diversity of the group. Thank you Margarethe!"

Roswitha

"I was happy to take part, even if I was occasionally unsure about my little free dance experience. But I'm pleased to say that you don't judge anything, instead I - probably all of us - are always amazed at what is possible and what is created thanks to your imaginative suggestions! Thank you!"

Ceren

"I really enjoyed the dance course, thank you very much!"
